Social media roles and permissions, explained
Owner, admin and member — who should be able to publish, approve, and connect accounts.
By the Sosial team
Giving everyone admin access is the fastest way to lose an account. The right split is small: most people draft, a few approve, fewer still should touch connected accounts.
A three-role model
- Owner — billing, workspace deletion, everything. Keep this to one or two people.
- Admin — can approve, schedule, manage channels and invite or remove members.
- Member — can draft and submit for approval, cannot publish or change connected accounts.
Connect accounts last
Connecting a channel grants the ability to post to it. That permission belongs with owners and admins, not with everyone who writes.
Member restrictions
A member can also be limited to specific channels — useful for a social manager who runs Instagram only, or a specialist who handles one client brand. Their drafts can only target the channels you assigned.
Review access quarterly
People change roles and leave. A five-minute look at the roster every quarter prevents the most common access incident.
